2b6a5733e7 merge: bring the component renames forward from phase8-log-correlation
Four doc conflicts, all where this branch had rewritten a passage that upstream
had only renamed. This branch's text is kept in seven of the eight hunks and
the spanmetrics -> span_metrics and otlp/tempo -> otlp_grpc/tempo spellings
carried into it, so the rewrite is not lost and the names stay current.

The exception is the TESTING.md span-call-count comment, where the incoming
side is the fuller text: it explains that the span_ prefix comes from the
connector's namespace setting. That side is taken.

Metric names are untouched — span_calls_total and traces_span_metrics_* are
produced by the connector's namespace, not by its component name.

c622da5a76 refactor(telemetry): use the current name for the span metrics connector
The pinned collector warns on every start that "spanmetrics" is a deprecated
alias for "span_metrics". Rename the connector, its pipeline references and
the prose that names it.

The derived metric names are untouched. They come from the connector's
`namespace` setting rather than its component name, so occurrences inside a
metric name such as traces_spanmetrics_calls_total are deliberately left as
they are; renaming those would break every span panel. The rename is applied
only to the bare word, never where it is joined to a metric name by
underscores.

This branch introduces the connector, so the change belongs here.

7f8f5b4be3 feat(telemetry): ship logs through Alloy, alongside traces and metrics
Alloy carried no log pipeline at all: no loki.source, loki.write or
loki.process anywhere in the config, against a working metrics and OTLP path.
Any deployment fed through Alloy rather than the reference collector therefore
sent traces and metrics but no logs, so log-to-trace correlation was
unavailable there even though both ends of the link were configured.

Logs now leave through the same otlphttp exporter as the other two signals, so
all three carry one resource identity. Alloy's own filelog receiver would have
been the closest match to the reference collector, but it is still
public-preview and refuses to load unless the service is started with
--stability.level=public-preview, which would mean editing the unit on a box
reachable only by RunCommand. The Loki source components are generally
available, so they are used and bridged into OTLP by otelcol.receiver.loki;
the service needs no extra flag.

That bridge hands over an empty resource and puts everything on the log
record, so the transform sets the resource attributes in log context.
service.instance.id is concatenated in from XRPLD_HOST_LABEL because OTTL has
no env() converter, and it is a resource attribute rather than a record one
because only resource attributes are promoted to indexed Loki labels. It must
equal the node's own service_instance_id or the logs join nothing. devnet
writes one flat file rather than a per-node directory, so identity cannot be
read off the path the way the docker collector does it; XRPLD_LOG_GLOB
overrides the path for other layouts.

The line is parsed for its own timestamp, severity and trace context, and
trace_id/span_id are set on the first-class OTLP record fields so Grafana
links a log to its trace without re-parsing the body. Lines emitted outside a
sampled span keep an empty trace id rather than an invalid one.

Also carry the node-identity operators into the Grafana Cloud collector
variant, align this config's log directory with its service_instance_id, and
rename the deprecated otlphttp/filelog collector component names. Alloy's
otelcol.exporter.otlphttp is that product's own name and is unchanged.

8d2e2d15af docs(telemetry): correct stale code citations and the log-correlation claim
Every citation below was checked against the file it names:

- LedgerMaster.cpp:463 is fixIndex, not the ledger.store span; that guard is at
:470 and the insert it wraps at :476
- LedgerMaster.cpp:987 is the tvc assignment, which sits BEFORE the tvc < minVal
return at :988; the ledger.validate span opens at :1003
- ServerHandler.cpp:705 is inside makeJsonError; processRequest is at :718
- docker-compose.yml:71 and :75 are comments in the collector's volume block;
the loki service is at :112 and its config command at :116

Two claims were also wrong rather than merely stale. Log-trace correlation is
gated in CI, because the workflow passes no --skip-loki, and the separate check
in integration-test.sh is run by no workflow at all. The Loki label note
described the Grafana Cloud collector config rather than the local one: only the
cloud variant sets job=xrpld, and the local config's own comment says to select
on service_name. The dashboards carry 35 Loki queries, not 38.

9aebdc292c docs(telemetry): fix stale symbols, attribute keys and TraceQL in the plan docs
Review feedback on the plan documents. Four kinds of error:

- Symbols that do not exist: ConsensusProposal::prevLedger_ (it is
previousLedger_), RCLConsensusAdaptor (it is RCLConsensus::Adaptor, and
startRound() is on RCLConsensus itself), and RPCHandler::doCommand (a free
  function, xrpl::rpc::doCommand).
- Attribute keys: the tables used ledger_index, which no telemetry code emits.
Same concept as ledger_seq but a different referent, so the code disambiguates
by prefix: current_ledger_seq for the open ledger a transaction targeted,
ledger_seq for a closed or validated one. A note now states which is which.
- TraceQL that does not parse: span-field predicates need braces, status.code
is not an intrinsic (status = error), and avg(duration) does not take a by
clause (avg_over_time does). All five re-tested against Tempo.
- The StatsD comparison omitted the Histogram instrument, which aggregates at
the point of measure, and the when-to-use table had no row for a metric that
  spans cannot afford to carry.

3153f3ef56 docs(telemetry): align runbook and plan docs with the shipped phase-9/10 code
The reference docs had drifted from the code in ways that break the reader
rather than merely misinform: PromQL examples that return no data, a rollback
flag that is a no-op, a sampling knob that does not exist, and two span parents
that moved. Code is treated as the truth throughout; where the code is the
defective side, the doc now records it as a known issue instead of describing
the bug as intent.

Renames the docs missed: histogram names gain the exporter's unit suffix
(ios_latency_milliseconds_bucket and four siblings), ledger_history_mismatch
gains _total, the StatsD-era quantile label gives way to le buckets,
rpc.request becomes rpc.http_request, traces_spanmetrics_calls_total becomes
span_calls_total, and the nine dotted xrpl.* span attributes are recorded as
renamed rather than left as live keys.

Re-parenting: consensus.update_positions and consensus.check are children of
consensus.establish, not of consensus.round.

Units and labels: state_accounting_*_duration is microseconds, not seconds;
cache_metrics label values are case-sensitive; object_count carries demangled
C++ type names. Nodestore read and write latency stays microseconds -- the
nanosecond accumulator change did not move the exported unit.

Adds what shipped but was undocumented: the ledger.acquire span, seven
consensus.round events, twelve span attributes, node_writes_duration_us, the
7-day validation-agreement window, the TxQ admission and reduce-relay metric
families, metrics_endpoint, and the phase-10 validation workflow.

Corrects claims that never held: 10% head sampling (it is fixed at 100%),
configurable redaction (it is unconditional), -DXRPL_ENABLE_TELEMETRY=OFF
(the flag is -Dtelemetry=OFF, default ON), FindOpenTelemetry.cmake and the
xrpl_telemetry target (neither exists), Promtail and a StatsD exporter in the
pipeline (neither exists), and Loki stream selection on job= (only
service_name is a stream label).

Phase 9 is marked complete, its provisioned alerting is attributed to the
branch that shipped it, and Phase 11 stays at zero except the one prerequisite
its code closes. Counts are reconciled repo-wide: 41 emitted span families,
15 dashboards on disk with 14 asserted, 13 alert rules in 5 groups.

Hardens the gate that let this drift through: Rule E of the naming check now
covers the reference docs, its allow-dotted marker is key-scoped and warns on
stale or empty use, a missing checked file is reported instead of silently
skipped, the test suite runs in CI, and doc paths trigger the check.

C++ and CMake changes are comment-only: three MetricsRegistry instrument names,
eight OTelCollector claims of a metric-name prefix that formatName never adds,
and the telemetry option's inverted default.

d2c7a00584 docs(telemetry): note service.name on metrics and collector tier tagging
- 05-configuration-reference: service_name now applies to metrics as well
  as traces (service.name resource attribute).
- 07-observability-backends: document that collector enrichment includes
  deployment-tier tagging (deployment.environment + fallback
xrpl.network.type) for filtering one Grafana stack by tier.

c0272f1314 docs: Add span attribute naming convention (OTel phase 1a)
Establish the single, authoritative naming convention for OpenTelemetry
span attribute keys so the code, collector, Tempo, dashboards, and docs
stay in sync.

- CONTRIBUTING.md: new "Telemetry span attribute naming" section under
the Style guide as the permanent, canonical home for the rules.
- OpenTelemetryPlan/02-design-decisions.md: new section 2.3.3 stating the
decided convention as design, and section 2.4 attribute schema realigned
to the underscore form (exact key spelling defers to the *SpanNames.h
  constants).
- Sweep the remaining plan docs: convert dotted xrpl.<domain>.<field> span
attribute keys to the underscore form; leave span names and the
  OTel-standard service.*/http.* and xrpl.network.* resource keys dotted.

5598b0eac7 docs(telemetry): fix head sampling at 1.0, remove configurable ratio
Document that head sampling is intentionally fixed at 100% and no longer
exposes a sampling_ratio config knob. A per-node ratio let nodes make
divergent keep/drop decisions for the same distributed trace, producing
broken/partial traces; pinning at 1.0 with a ParentBased sampler keeps
decisions coherent across the network. Volume reduction is delegated to
collector-side tail sampling.

913a4b794c docs: correct OTel overhead estimates against SDK benchmarks
Verified CPU, memory, and network overhead calculations against
official OTel C++ SDK benchmarks (969 CI runs) and source code
analysis. Key corrections:

- Span creation: 200-500ns → 500-1000ns (SDK BM_SpanCreation median
~1000ns; original estimate matched API no-op, not SDK path)
- Per-TX overhead: 2.4μs → 4.0μs (2.0% vs 1.2%; still within 1-3%)
- Active span memory: ~200 bytes → ~500-800 bytes (Span wrapper +
  SpanData + std::map attribute storage)
- Static memory: ~456KB → ~8.3MB (BatchSpanProcessor worker thread
  stack ~8MB was omitted)
- Total memory ceiling: ~2.3MB → ~10MB
- Memory success metric target: <5MB → <10MB
- AddEvent: 50-80ns → 100-200ns

Added Section 3.5.4 with links to all benchmark sources.
Updated presentation.md with matching corrections.
High-level conclusions unchanged (1-3% CPU, negligible consensus).

Also includes: review fixes, cross-document consistency improvements,
additional component tracing docs (PathFinding, TxQ, Validator, etc.),
context size corrections (32 → 25 bytes).
