4278014ab0 fix(telemetry): order the metrics pipeline by instrument kind
beast::insight instruments are created during ApplicationImp's member-init
list, and opentelemetry-cpp 1.28 never rebinds an already-vended Meter, so an
instrument created before the MeterProvider is published records nothing for
the rest of the process. Observable instruments carry the opposite constraint:
registering one arms the SDK reader thread, and its callbacks run hook handlers
that read services which do not exist that early.

Publish the provider in Telemetry's constructor, ahead of every producer, and
defer only the observables. Collector gains onCollectionReady() and
onCollectionStopping(); OTelCollector arms and disarms its gauges in response.
StatsDCollector starts its polling thread in its own constructor and had the
same hazard, so it uses the pair to gate that thread.

The metrics resource carries service.instance.id and is immutable once built,
so the node public key is resolved in Main.cpp, where a config error can still
be reported, and passed to makeApplication(). getNodeIdentity() remains
authoritative; both paths now share readNodeIdentity(), so telemetry cannot
report a key the node has abandoned.

An explicit ~ApplicationImp stops observing and stops telemetry, covering the
setup() failure paths that never reach run(). Telemetry::stop() is once-only
and no longer clears another instance's global pointer. The histogram view's
meter selector now matches the meter actually in use, so its bucket boundaries
apply for the first time.

89b58da1e8 fix: Report telemetry config errors instead of aborting at startup
makeTelemetrySetup() rejects a contradictory [telemetry] mutual-TLS
setup by throwing, but it is called from ApplicationImp's
member-initializer list. A try/catch in the constructor body cannot
reach a throw from there, and nothing further up the stack caught it
either, so a config mistake reached std::terminate: the default handler
printed a terminate dump and raised SIGABRT, leaving a core file
instead of a startup error.

Catch std::exception around makeApplication() in run(), report the
reason on stderr and return -1, so the failure is a clean non-zero exit
with a message an operator can act on. Only the construction is
wrapped. setup() starts subsystems whose shutdown order is delicate and
is left outside deliberately, because unwinding a half-started
Application would skip the normal stop sequence.

Gate both validation guards on enabled. A node with telemetry switched
off previously refused to start over certificate paths that nothing
would read.

Document both throws on makeTelemetrySetup(), state in
cfg/xrpld-example.cfg and the configuration reference that a partial
mutual-TLS setup is fatal and that the checks apply only when
enabled=1, and add a runbook troubleshooting entry keyed on the two
error messages.

Tests cover both guards with the message asserted so the two are told
apart, both enabled=0 paths, and the default plaintext configuration.

070d29b465 feat(telemetry): add the xrpl.node.id resource attribute
Node identity reached the OTel resource only as service.instance.id, which is
config-overridable and carries a deployment-chosen label rather than the node's
own identity. Add xrpl.node.id, set unconditionally from the node public key
(base58, TokenType::NodePublic), so traces and metrics share a stable per-node
key independent of [telemetry] service_instance_id.

Set on the tracer resource via Telemetry::setNodeId(), called from
ApplicationImp::setup() once nodeIdentity_ is known, and on the MetricsRegistry
resource via an added start() parameter. The beast::insight meter provider is
built in TelemetryImpl's constructor, before the wallet DB exists, so its
resource cannot carry the value; that path is left for later and the attribute
is omitted rather than stamped blank.

Also drops the transform/spanidentity collector processor added in
4a361a496d: per-node identity belongs on the resource, not copied onto every
span.

3860c93db2 refactor(telemetry): route dashboards, runbook and collector work to phase-9
These changes were developed on the phase-10 branch but belong to content this
branch and its upstreams introduced. Carrying them on phase-10 made its PR diff
report churn in files phase-10 does not own, and left each PR claiming a scope
that did not match its contents.

Moved here from phase-10 (identical content, no functional change):

- Dashboards: all 14 existing boards plus the new log-derived-insights board.
- Docs: telemetry-runbook.md (minus the workload/benchmark sections, which
describe phase-10 tooling) and the new telemetry-glossary.md.
- Grafana Cloud + Alloy export path: collector config, compose override, the
  two .env examples and alloy/config.alloy.
- Local stack: otel-collector-config.yaml gains sub-millisecond and
second-scale spanmetrics buckets, pins unit=ms, and promotes
  close_time_correct; integration-test.sh and TESTING.md follow.
- Node configs: exported_instance -> service_instance_id in comments; the
mainnet sample now logs at warning to bound log volume.
- Metrics code: Telemetry.cpp builds the metrics pipeline in the constructor
via initMetrics() so the global MeterProvider is published before any
subsystem creates a beast::insight instrument, and the histogram view keeps
each instrument's own name instead of collapsing them under one series.
MetricsRegistry gains a last_close_time gauge and skips negative job-queue
durations. OTelCollector drops an unused accessor.
- Naming CI: xrpl_work_item joins EXTERNAL_INFRA_LABELS and Rule E accepts the
dotted perf-iac resource-attribute form. This must travel with the
dashboards and runbook that reference those labels, or the rules fail.
- Doxygen input glob no longer recurses dot-directories.

Sections describing phase-10 tooling stay on phase-10 and keep their
"Future Enhancement" / "Planned, not yet implemented" markers here; phase-10
removes those markers when it lands the tooling.

35a0896fc5 Merge branch 'pratik/otel-phase3-tx-tracing' into pratik/otel-phase4-consensus-tracing
Conflict in src/libxrpl/telemetry/SpanGuard.cpp: both sides added a different
include in the same alphabetical slot — phase-4 added <initializer_list>, the
incoming std::format change added <format>. Both are required, so both are
kept in sorted order.

17ff797633 refactor(telemetry): build span names with std::format
SpanGuard::span() and freshRoot() joined the prefix and suffix by hand with
reserve() + three append() calls. std::format expresses the same join in one
line; libstdc++ has shipped <format> since GCC 13 and the project floor is
GCC 15.2 (BUILD.md), so it is available on every supported compiler.

Both callers are noexcept and std::format can throw (std::bad_alloc, or
std::format_error on a malformed spec), so an escaping exception would
terminate the process. The call is wrapped in a joinSpanName() helper that
catches and returns std::nullopt; the caller then returns a null guard, which
is the same degrade-to-no-op path already taken when telemetry is disabled.
Telemetry must never bring the node down.

One helper rather than a try/catch at each site keeps both call sites a single
line and puts the exception-safety requirement in one documented place.

Addresses a review comment on PR #6437.

8c86e01ace feat(telemetry): release-visible counter for dropped deterministic trace_id; clarify childSpan(name) doc
M1: ~PendingTraceId now increments a process-wide atomic counter when a
pinned deterministic trace_id is destroyed unconsumed, so the silent drop
stays observable in release builds where the existing XRPL_ASSERT is a
no-op. Exposed via unconsumedDeterministicIdDrops() for a future metric.
The deterministic trace_id bytes, the GenerateTraceId() consume logic, and
the unconditional reset() are all unchanged.

M2: tighten the Doxygen on SpanGuard::childSpan(std::string_view) to state
it parents to the current ambient context of this store (meaningful only
when a scope/ScopedSpanGuard/ScopedActivation is active) and to point
callers at childSpan(name, ctx) for explicit cross-store parenting.
Doc-only; no behavior change.

e3c724423f feat(telemetry): add ScopedActivation for non-owning span activation
Add SpanGuard::activate() returning a ScopedActivation RAII helper that
activates an already-owned span (from a thread-free SpanGuard) as the
current context WITHOUT taking ownership. The activation pushes the span
onto the current LocalValue context store on construction and pops it on
destruction; it never ends the span (its owning SpanGuard does).

This lets a job-handoff span be made ambient for the duration of a
synchronous, non-yielding worker body so log lines there carry the
span's trace_id. Non-copyable and non-movable, mirroring ScopedSpanGuard.

owner is captured after the Scope push via declaration-order member
initialization (scope declared before owner), matching the A3
capture-after-materialization invariant. A #else no-op stub keeps the
API zero-overhead when telemetry is compiled out.
