NetworkOPs.cpp include block: develop replaced DeliveredAmount.h,
MPTokenIssuanceID.h and NFTSyntheticSerializer.h with the single
rpc/detail/SyntheticFields.h. Kept that and this branch's two telemetry
includes.
The three apply-pipeline stages disagreed on span status. preflight set
Error on any non-success TER, preclaim never set it at all, and the apply
stage recorded nothing when a transaction threw.
- preclaim now sets Error for any non-success result, matching preflight.
Routine retryable results (terPRE_SEQ, telINSUF_FEE_P) are included, so
stage=preclaim error rates will rise and track normal queueing.
- The apply span no longer keys Error on canApply. A dry run reports
tesSUCCESS with canApply false, which was recorded as an error.
Every other path with canApply false already has a non-success result,
so !isTesSuccess covers them.
- Exceptions escaping the apply stage set ter_result=tefEXCEPTION and
record an exception event, then rethrow unchanged, mirroring what
invokePreflight and invokePreclaim already do. The caller still maps
the exception to tefEXCEPTION, so behaviour is unchanged.
- Two comments claimed every exit funnels through the logger lambda. A
throw does not, so they now say each return path.
Transactor::operator()() set its apply-stage attributes unconditionally, so
every transaction applied paid for a TxFormats::findByType() lookup and a
64-char string built from the view's parent hash, plus one or two transToken()
lookups in the exit funnel, whether or not anything recorded them.
Guard both blocks on the span being active. This is the pattern the sibling
preflight and preclaim spans already use in applySteps.cpp, with a comment
giving this exact reason -- the apply stage was simply missed.
Behaviour is unchanged where the span is live, and setAttribute on an inactive
guard was already a no-op.
Add shared current_ledger_seq / current_ledger_hash span attributes so a
transaction's work can be joined to the ledger trace that produced it, and
fix discrepancy D1 (txq.enqueue was a detached trace root).
- Define current_ledger_seq / current_ledger_hash once in SpanNames.h and
re-export via `using` from TxQ/TxApply/Tx span-name headers. These name the
ledger being worked on (open/tentative apply or in-flight consensus build),
distinct from ledger_seq (the built/validated ledger on ledger.build /
consensus.round). Named after the RPC field ledger_current_index.
- txq.enqueue: set current_ledger_seq/hash from the view, and parent the span
to the caller's tx.process span via an explicit captured SpanContext (new
trailing TxQ::apply param) instead of a detached root. The parent is
explicit, not ambient-inherited, and the ScopedSpanGuard scope is RAII-bound
to the synchronous apply, so it cannot leak onto a reused worker (D1 fix).
On the open-ledger rebuild path no tx.process context exists, so it stays a
root and the attribute provides the correlation.
- tx.preclaim / tx.transactor: set both attributes from their ledger view.
tx.preflight is stateless (no view) and is the documented exception.
- tx.process / tx.receive: set current_ledger_seq from the current open ledger
index at submit/receive time (no hash: not yet applied to a ledger).
- Contract test pins the two new attribute key strings.
Neither key is a spanmetrics dimension, so there is no metric-cardinality
impact. Dashboards/collector/docs land on the later phases per the chain split.

Remove unused SpanNames.h from Transactor.cpp (transitively included
via TxApplySpanNames.h). Remove unused <ranges> from
TraceContextValidation.h (std::ranges::any_of lives in <algorithm>).

Bring phase-2 forward into phase 3 (transaction tracing). Phase 3 introduces
TxSpanNames.h, TxQSpanNames.h, and TxApplySpanNames.h.
Conflict resolution:
- TxQ.cpp: kept phase-3's txq_span-based instrumentation (phase-2 had none).
Dropped the orphaned `NumberSO{... fixUniversalNumber}` line — develop's
#5962 (Retire fixUniversalNumber) removed that symbol repo-wide; the
conflict block had carried one stale copy that would not compile.
- 05/08/OpenTelemetryPlan.md: dropped the deleted 04-code-samples / POC_taskList
references (carried from phase-2), kept phase-3's new secure-OTel.md doc rows,
section, and Mermaid node/edge/style. Config code block -> prose; merged the
secure-OTel hardening pointer with the authoritative-config prose.
- Phase3_taskList.md: removed the "dotted keys for readability" note that came
from phase-2 — phase 3 already uses the underscore keys.
Reviewed by code-review agents: telemetry instrumentation intact, naming check
green (47 keys across 7 *SpanNames.h headers), no conflict markers.

The tx.transactor span covered only the apply stage; preflight and
preclaim had no telemetry, so a transaction that hard-failed those
stages produced no apply-pipeline span and per-stage latency/failure
was invisible.
Add tx.preflight and tx.preclaim spans in applySteps.cpp via a
makeStageSpan() helper using SpanGuard::hashSpan, so all three stages
share a deterministic trace_id derived from txID[0:16] even though they
run sequentially and often cross-thread. Each span carries stage,
tx_type, and ter_result; exceptions are recorded as tefEXCEPTION before
the public wrappers map them. The type lookup is guarded behind the
span-active check so it costs nothing when tracing is off.
Add a stage="apply" attribute to the tx.transactor span and move its
three hardcoded attribute strings to a new library-safe header
include/xrpl/tx/detail/TxApplySpanNames.h, which mirrors the daemon-side
TxSpanNames.h strings so the collector spanmetrics connector aggregates
both span sets under one dimension set.
A constants-contract test pins the span-name, attribute-key, and
stage-value strings; span content stays covered by the docker
integration test, as the rest of the telemetry suite is.

Wraps Transactor::operator() with a span that captures tx_type,
ter_result, and applied. This is the universal dispatch point — every
transaction flows through it, giving per-type latency breakdown.
Adds libxrpl.tx > xrpl.telemetry levelization dependency.
